Is there a reason why at 9:56 you switch your stance after getting the collar tie and wrist control?

Good question. There are a few reasons I prefer to switch my stance.

First, I’d like to note that if I had entered my tie up with my right foot forward, I would have stayed there in the tie. I like to have the same leg forward as my collar tie push hand.

I feel more balanced if I am pushing my opponent with my right hand collar tie with my left leg back. It also give me more power because when I push, I like to have my back foot slightly at an angle so I can push off the inside of my foot. Also, it helps to have your collar tie and lead leg the same (in this case right collar tie and right lead leg) because it’s easier to fire off fakes and attacks instead of having to switch your stance right before you shoot.

Do you recommend newer wrestlers fight for inside position and use the overtie as when they are beat inside, or do you think they should be able to wrestle from over and outside ties from the beginning?

I think it is good to get into the habit of fighting for inside tie yes, especially for new wrestlers. But, it is important to know how to wrestle from both positions as you progress in the sport. More ways to attack.

I’m a left leg lead and I notice when watching your matches once you get into your righty collar tie you switch it up into righty shots. Is there a purpose to it and is it ok to switch lead legs in a match like that?

It’s definitely okay to switch your lead leg in matches. I have trained to be able to shoot either side so that’s why I do that. I’m always trying to move to confuse my opponent and hide my attacks.
