Learning the omoplata for gi jiu jitsu is an imperative skill to master for training and competition! In this instructional, Italo breaks down the omoplata into three primary concepts:

  • Entries to the Omoplata
  • Omoplata Finishes
  • Drills

Throughout each concept, Italo frequently emphasizes important details on how to maintain proper control and position with the omoplata in many different scenarios.

You’ll first learn some of Italo’s favorite entries to the omoplata for gi, including collar and sleeve control, double sleeve control, lassos, and De la Riva.

Once you understand how to enter into omoplata, Moura provides excellent instructional on how to use the omoplata control over your opponent. This will allow  you to control your opponent’s movement, limit their defensive and offensive options, and potentially set up your submission attacks or transitions to more advantageous positions.

Instructor Bio:

Italo Moura is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt under Murilo Santana and Cicero Costha. Originally from the Brazilian State of São Paulo, Italo now resides in New York City and trains out of Unity Jiu Jitsu.

Italo has been involved in martial arts since he was very young and began training in jiu jitsu at the age of 12 at a local Gracie Barra jiu jitsu school. Since then, Italo has been competing and winning on the world stage.

Italo has multiple IBJJF World and Regional Championships in both the Gi and in No-Gi. Training out of one of the best gyms in the US and with many years of competition ahead of him, Italo is sure to continue his upward trajectory and continue to add championship titles to his resume.
